Sports Bar Plus: Trident Grill I

Trident Grill was opened in August of 2001 by Nelson Miller, retired US Navy SEAL. Trident is named after the special warfare insignia that all Navy SEALs wear on their uniforms. He fell in love with the Arizona desert and culture of the Southwest when doing special training ops in Tucson and nearby areas. As retirement approached, he chose to open the first Trident Grill, near the University of Arizona.

While many sports bars try to deny being a sports bar, all of the Trident Grills take pride in offering exactly that experience, Trident has TVs covering most of the wall space not covered in signs saluting the Armed Forces and Veterans. Their website even advises guests to ask their server to pull up whatever sports event they want to watch. Trident takes pride in subscribing to every sports related channel available from Direct TV.

Much like many of the Sports Bars and Brew Pubs in Tucson, Trident’s brunch, lunch and dinner offerings are a clear step above what is to be expected. The military presence in Tucson was a big factor in the owners decision and he wanted to have a special place for veterans to grab a beer, eat and laugh together. His trident concept was based on: why can't you go to a bar/pub/sports grill and not have something other than bad bar food!! The East Coast-inspired menu brought items such as Old Bay-dusted peel and eat shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops, lump blue crab cakes and a special recipe from his grandmother for clam chowder. Adding to that with oversized sandwiches and grass-fed burgers proved to be a winning combination of variety and quality that the Tucson local community came to love.

In appreciation of the support from the local community and military, the Trident Grill supports many military charities, local high schools, animal shelters and intramural sports. Trident believes in grass-roots support for the local community that frequents the Trident Grill, which is the foundation of their success.

If you want to take a look at their menu, go to https://tridentgrill.com/trident-grill-menu/. Here’s a tip, though, try out the gumbo (way sausage forward and delicious), but start with the cup rather than the bowl until you know what your quantity limit is.

If you can’t find the info you need on their website, give them a call at (520) 795-5755. Be prepared to holler, though, because this joint is almost always jumping.

Located at 2033 E Speedway Blvd., Tucson, AZ Trident 1 is close to the North University, Blenman/Elm Historic District, Catalina Vista and Jefferson Park neighborhoods.
